| CLIMATE
AND LOCATION:
Valladolid is located in the northwest center of the meseta castellana (the high Castillian plateau) in what was once known as Old Castile. It is now the capital of the Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla-León. In Summer, 1999, the Modern Languages and Literatures Department in conjunction with the College of Liberal Arts, and under the auspices of Extended Education, began to offer the Cal Poly Valladolid Studies Program in Valladolid, Spain. The program continued in July, 2000, and will be offerred again in July, 2001. LOCATION: The program is held in Valladolid, Spain, about 120 miles northwest of Madrid. Valladolid is a large urban center with a population of 335,000. It still holds all the charm of a mid-size, provincial city. It is located on the high Castilian meseta in the heart of Old Castile. Its summer climate is warm, dry, and clear. DATES: Students provide their own transportation to arrive about noon on Saturday, June 30, 2001, in Madrid. The Universidad de Valladolid will provide bus transportation from Madrid to Valladolid on Sunday, July 1, 2001., Students will be evaluated for their language skills via a written and oral exam on Monday morning, July 2nd, when intensive language study will begin. The program will run through Friday, July 27, 2001.

THE PROGRAM: Student are assigned housed with a host family or señora, while in Valladolid. These host families are carefully selected and have extensive experience hosting American students; all efforts are made to accommodate dietary and lodging needs. Hosts speak only Spanish, thereby increasing the educational and cultural experience. COST: The cost of the program is currently being determined. This price for the entire four weeks includes:
